I had found Aria's Story by accident when looking for good RPG Maker games to try, and I really enjoyed it a lot, so I decided to check out your other works, and found Midnight Train.
I was not prepared to have a new #2 favorite RPG Maker game of all time (#1 will eternally be OneShot, sorry lol). I've played a good handful of other RPG Maker games at this point and none of them compared to the beauty and masterful storytelling that is this game. There were only a couple points where I felt the logic needed to progress was unfair without failing once or twice (hiding in the Control Room, I'm looking at you), but other than that this was a pure joy to experience. The character development, the writing, the environments, the worldbuilding was all incredibly good. I look forward to seeing anything else you work on in the future.
This storyline also really resonated with me on many levels and helped me in a way you can't understand. Thank you for this game, seriously.
I am one of those who opened an itch io account just to comment on this game.
As someone who has played a lot of indie games, I must say that this game is a masterpiece from start to finish. every chapter and characters were interesting and every character I met made me emotionally connected with them.
The game has a lot to praise, the characters, the story, the mini-games, the use of sound is far above any indie game, so I was never bored while playing. the only problem was that the controls were a bit stumpy, which didn't bother me while I was so caught up in the story.
My favourite character was Apollo by far. Definitely one of my favourite indie deutergonists now. When I saw the end of the 2nd chapter, I couldn't even sleep from shock
I will be following and waiting for your other works.
HELP I'M SUTCK AT THE BULLET AND PISTOL PART, When I first try it it would let me hit the bottles, but when I missed the last one It's been impossible to hint even the first one HELPPPPP Besides, I've loved this game
I have made an account just to post a comment... Truly awesome so awesome game. I was immediately charmed and endeared by the characters, and I was very hooked to see what would happen to them through the story. Seeing them explore the situation in different ways was fun and engaging!!! The mystery of what was going on was so intriguing, and I was on the edge of my seat till the very end. The character development was so satisfying to see...!!! The dynamics and relationships between the characters were my favorite part, it was so nice to see it all connect and to see deeper bonds form. Seeing their sad stories and how they find ways to move on to a brighter future... It was so awesome... The worldbuilding shown within is also so interesting...
Gameplay wise I also really enjoyed it. Usually, I struggle tons with puzzles in RPGs and end up trying to look up the answers, but here I felt I could discover all the answers without whirling my head too much if I looked around enough (compliment). The difficulty was neat and while it does get harder as the game progresses, it does so in a reasonable way and things could be solved eventually once you look at things you first overlooked... In summary, I liked how the game handled puzzles, they were satisfactory to solve. I also do appreciate how you can get hints if you so want to. It does it in a way where you can finish connecting the dots yourself without feeling ashamed about it, and that was very nice.
Awesome game!!! Can't wait to play again and see what I couldn't quite catch the first time. I totally recommend it!!!
This game is so amazing, I love everything about it. I'm a sucker for depressing endings tho, so I almost hoped that Luna would stay alone in the real world while the others would be trapped but I'm so glad that they were able to escape. One of my favorite games for sure, crazy that I didn't stumble upon it earlier.
The developer's other game, Aria's Story has an ending to that effect, the true ending anyway. If you haven't already, give it a try, it's just as good as this one :)
i swear i'd like to write a 1000 word long essay review but in the end there are no words to describe my love for this game. top 2 or maybe even top 1 best game on itch.io
really enjoying this game so far! btw in the skull court room, there's a bit where the language suddenly changes (lmk if the image isn't far down enough to be hidden behind the view more)
unfortunately i can't understand this myself, but my mom probably can, so i'll ask her.
10/10. Joya.
Decent game, some segments where the gameplay is different are good, others not really. Story is intriguing at the beginning but boring at chapter 1, chapter 2 is slightly better but still. Chapter 3 and 4 are where it's at and the ending is amazing. Great to play
No matter how many times I play it, it is simply the best game in the world, it has been a while since I played it and the ending still moves me, I almost cried (again), it is simply a masterpiece and it was one of my first games ...! so I have affection for it
And I hope I'm not the only one who loves the relationship between Neil and Luna, I like to imagine that they ended up together later...!
Please play this masterpiece!! It is one of my favorite, if not my literal favorite rpg maker games of all time. I played it a long while back and still come back to it. I adore story focused games and every character in this game makes me want to keep them. I am so excited to experience it fresh again in the remake and I will probably cry again. (Apollo solos btw)
This game is just what I wanted to see! Great original story, fun characters, and a perfect ending to end it all. Looking forward to playing your other game, and maybe the future ones if there are plans for them.
I definitely recommend for people who are looking for story focused RPG's. The game isn't too difficult, the help button really helps when you're just stuck on that one puzzle and don't feel like looking it up, potentially getting spoiled. Had some minor troubleshooting with joyplay and the chapter select screen, but who cares.
And to top all of that the game is literally FREE! Even most of the paid games I've played can't compare to this experience.
I LOVE THIS GAME OMG?! The hardest part in the game was the skulls, where you had to cross them without them noticing, AND the part where (i forgot the white haired girls name) WHERE YOU SNEAKLY RUN AWAY FROM THE GUARDS??!!. Omg i wish more people see this, i LOVVE IT SO MUCH!!
I like that RPG Maker games like this and Aria's Story are puzzles that aren't too hard, and they can have you think and connect items to solutions fast. Plus the sound tracks for both of them are amazing. They give you an amazing story for both, and learning about the characters are incredible too. Both being unique in their own ways, while also being similar in some ways as well. I will always play any RPG Maker game that Lydia makes, and I hope others feels that way too.
you don't understand how much i loved this. the aesthetics were great, the puzzles got harder over time but in a reasonable way, i never felt thrown into something out of the blue (and when i did it just took me a few deaths to learn a path lol), the characters were great (especially neil!! my beloved!!) and my gosh the STORY i LOVED the story! and neils deductions were so fun (except when my clickity click click finger went brrr and made me make the wrong choice but that is a me problem). i personally would love just to see everyone's day to day life at the end but once again that is a me problem and my me solution is to most likely think obsessively about this until i end up playing your other game and repeat process (as i am playing them in the wrong order due to just simply finding this one first) and THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS IT WAS REALLY GOOD THANKS <33 (if i would say one thing i did not like was the timers. especially the really really short ones in chapter 4. i died so many times just figuring out the routes and it was starting to get a little tedious but that is okay! it was still a great game!)
i played this game like months ago, and i still love it so much.
i loved the artstyle, the story, and the plot and its amazingly written. this is one of the only games i started crying about because some parts were so sad to me. i was so happy about the ending (im not saying anything specific cuz spoilers), that i cried again lol.
this is my absolute favorite game, and i follow midnighttrain-project on tumblr too, and im so excited for the remake.
please keep us all updated on the programming and development and dont ever stop programming <3
It's one of my favorite rpg maker game. The characters are unforgettable, the OST are so good and prefect, the story is.. wow. Such a prefect story. I'll not spoil, but the last chapter is a masterpiece. (I cried so much)
And..... Neil I love you 🧡🧡🧡
Btw Luna is an incridible protagonist. I love her. Her characteristics, her design,... Well, all of the characters of the game are perfectly create. (sorry if my eng is bad)
There is some traduction error in the English version, but it's not really annoying. Thank you to created this game! <3
I played the first chapter and I would love to play the others, but for some reason I can't, even though it says [ALL CHAPTERS]. The game just start playing the end credits after the first chapter. Does anyone else have this issue, or have I done something weird?
I played chapter 1 recently and I seem to be experiencing the same bug. I am opening new journey and then clicking on chapter 2, but it only makes a sound and doesn't do anything else. This applies to all the new chapters, only the first one is accessible to me.
I am using joiplay to play this game, so I might try to see if it works normal on my PC. I could also use save files of the nearest save location in those chapters, and just watch the beggining on yt.
*Update*
Yes it was a weird joiplay bug. The solution was to transfer the game to a PC, play a bit of the next chapter and save it anywhere.
an amazing game with very beautiful art and a very interesting story that took me by surprise several times, and obviously I cried at the end, congratulations lydia for this amazing game
Where do i begin! This game has immediately become the best one i've ever played! The characters are so lovable and well-rounded, the puzzles are perfect! So fun to think back and use past information as clues in the deductions! Emotional and makes you think on morality and character! Just simply wonderful! Couldn't be happier with it, thank you Lydia :)
I know the full game dropped like 3 years ago but I installed it, played a little of the first chapter, then forgot about it, but I've finally came around to playing all four chapters and I'm actually speechless.
Everything about this game was masterful. The characters, the twists, the story, the puzzle. It's a slow start, but as the story progresses and more characters are introduced and more backstory is fed it becomes a captivating playthrough that will have you in the palm of the games hand.
The only criticisms I have is that there some puzzles that are really more up to chance, such as the hiding one in the final chapter, and there were some questionable musical choices in certain scenes that could have benefited from a more fitting track, but these are nitpicks that don't take from the experience.
Overall, not to pull a Dave Meltzer, but I have to give this game 11/10. No exaggeration. The game met expectations and proceeded to exceed them through it's witty game design, diverse cast of characters and the rollercoaster of a story it told. This is what RPGMaker games aspire to be.
After I have completed the game, I must say, it was a delightful and emotional experience! The story and characters are well crafted, showing that the RPG Maker game format is a unique and very interesting way to explore these, along with the puzzle-style gameplay. Even if I found some of the puzzles to be straightforward, the addition of the Help option is a really nice touch to me. Besides helping the player, it makes sense that Neil would be able to understand situations/puzzles more effectively and help you out with them; it gives the game character!
I can't forget to mention the visuals; not only the graphics and character models, but the fact that there are 4 whole Chapters with varying looks and good amount of content makes the effort put into the game very apparent! Every time I finished one, I was itching to get to the next.
I can't put into words how inspiring and lovely your work is; I recommend this experience to others, and I wish the bestfor the upcoming remake!!
Some tips for other players:
-Download RTP VX Ace package from the official RPG Maker Store and extract it before playing! (RTP means Run Time Package; it has all the assets, graphics, etc. of the game).
